Battling through, a Podium Place for Louise Cook was the reward.
With fate and the elements conspiring against her, Louise Cook – proudly sponsored by Diamondbrite as part of the Grand Opportunity in her World Rally Championship campaign – took an impressive 3rd place finish in the RC4 class and WRC3 in last weekend’s Rally Italia Sardegna.
Having to make a last-minute switch to a different car, which only allowed for a 30km test before she was required at the starting line, Louise told us she had ‘a crazy rough’ first day, concentrating on managing the pace and saving the car.
Adding to the drama, a massive thunderstorm broke out on the second loop, leaving the narrow tracks incredibly treacherous, with Louise mastering the feel of the car whilst battling against the elements.
By the third loop, the tracks became wider, allowing Louise a chance to truly get to grips with the new vehicle. By the second stage, Louise chased down a two-minute gap, catching the car in front, but the drama wasn’t over. On the second loop of leg three, she endured a very hard landing, and was concerned about the car lasting the distance.
On the last day, with Louise concerned about the amount of noise emanating from the car, she was closing in to the finish with a 15-minute gap to fourth place, but heroically closed this deficit to finish in an impressive third spot in RC4 class and WRC3.
